CYTOKINE PATTERN IN PATIENTS WITH IXODES TICK-BORNE BORRELIOSIS

A.I. Simakova, N.V. Mandrakova, E.V. Markelova, V.A. Ivanis

The article presents the results of cytokine investigation in patients with Ixodes tick-borne Borreliosis. According to the erythema reaction at the site of tick sting, 2 groups of patients were distinguished: the first group - 28 patients with erythematous form and the second group - 17 patients with non-erythematous form. Levels of TNFg, INFg, IL-1a, IL-8, and IL-4 in serum were analyzed in both groups during an acute period. It was determined that synthesis and activation of cytokines depended on the form of disease. The prevalence of Th2 type immune response in both groups of patients was revealed. This predetermines the incompetence of cellular type immune reactivity in Ixodes tick-borne Borreliosis. (Cytokines and Inflammation. 2004. Vol. 3, N 4. P. 21-24.)

Keywords: Ixodes tick-borne borreliosis, cytokines, Th2 type immune response.
