Predictors of inflammation (sICAM-1 and pro-inflammatory cytokines) in patients with acute leukemia

L.F. Aznabaeva, S.V. Plotnikova, G.Sh. Safuanova

The aim of this study was to investigate the features of the predictors of inflammation (inflammatory cytokines and intercellular adhesion molecule sICAM-1) and phagocytic cells in patients with acute leukemia, depending on the development of the infectious syndrome, after a course of chemotherapy and in remission. Cytokine regulation and intercellular cooperation is characterized by an increased concentration of sICAM-1, levels of IL-6 and TNFα in the absence of marked changes with respect to IL-1β and IL-8. Infectious syndrome caused a pronounced decrease in the neutrophil cytotoxicity and their ability to phagocytosis and is associated with deficiency of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-8). Patients in remission show normalization of sICAM-1 and IL-6 levels. The concentration of TNFalpha in patients is high independently of treatment. (Cytokines and Inflammation. 2015. Vol. 14. № 1. P. 83–42.)

Keywords: acute leukemia, cytokines, sICAM-1, infectious complications.
