IMPAIRMENT OF IMMUNITY IN RECURRENT FURUNCULOSIS

N.M. Kalinina

Congenital defects of neutrophil metabolism - chronic granulomatous disease, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, myeloperoxidase deficiency, CD11/CD18 integrin deficiency (I type defect of leukocyte adhesion) - are known to be the most common reasons of recurrent furunculosis. The aim of present study was to investigate peculiarities of immunological changes in patients with furunculosis, including cytokine levels, neutrophil function, immunoglobulins production as well as the role of persisting infection. The effectiveness of different immunomodulators (Likopid, Polyoxidonium), antistaphylococcal immunoglobulin and immunoglobulin preparations (Octagam, Pentaglobin, Intraglobin) as well as cytokine preparations (interferon gamma, G-CSF) is also discussed.

Keywords: furunculosis, persisting infection, congenital defects of neutrophil metabolism, cytokines, immunomodulators, immunoglobulin preparations.
