AETIOLOGICAL ROLE OF HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS IN CERVICAL CANCER DEVELOPMENT: GENETIC AND PATHOGENESIS ASPECTS

A review is dedicated to aetiological role of papilloma virus in cervical cancer development. Following aspects are discussed: a role of E5, E6, E7 oncoproteins and some other viral factors in transformation and "immortalization" of epithelial cells, interactions between oncoproteins and cellular regulators of apoptosis and receptors of growth stimulating cytokines. Up-to-date data on the trends and protocols of papillomavirus-associated cancer treatment and prophylaxis are given. (Cytokines and Inflammation, 2003, Vol. 2, № 4, p. 31-38)
