NEUROIMMUNOMODULATORY PROPERTIES OF CEREBROLYSIN

Nervous and immune systems closely interact with each other. Neurological disorders are often associated with neuropeptide dysregulation and immune dysfunction. Cerebrolysin being a favorable combination of neuropeptides and microelements can positively influence both immune and nervous systems. Our studies in hyperkinetic children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have shown that administration of Cerebrolysin improved both neurological and immunological characteristics and had marked antiviral effect. Cerebrolysin significantly increased CD19+ and CD4+ cell levels, and modulated expression of early and late activation markers on lymphocytes. It normalized proinflammatory cytokine (IL-1, TNFa and IFNg) production, T-cell HLA-DR molecules expression and NK cell level in ADHD children and increased patients' neutrophil response to stimulation in vitro.
