GENE POLYMORPHISMS OF INTERLEUKIN-1 FAMILY CYTOKINES
A.Ju. Gromova, A.S. Simbirtsev
Functional polymorphisms of IL-1 family genes influences the level of cytokines production and defence reactions development, because just these cytokines have the biggest impact on the regulation of inflammation and consequently on specific immune response. In this review we summarize the data on the frequencies of various IL-1 family alleles in different human populations and discuss the linkage between certain alleles and the development of inflammation, predisposition to human pathology, and different ways of immunotherapy. According to obtained data, cytokine genotyping could become one of the potent criteria for individual correction of immune system and for specific therapy. (Cytokines and Inflammation. 2005.
