SERUM PRO-INFLAMMATORY AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY CYTOKINES IN ACUTE PHASE OF ISCHEMIC STROKE
G.N. Zdanov, M.M. Gerasimova
Serum pro-inflammatory (IL-1a) and anti-inflammatory (IL-10) cytokines were measured at 1st, 10th and 21st days of ischemic stroke acute phase. During 1st day there was a significant IL-1a increase. Severity of ischemic stroke correlated with IL-1a level. The higher IL-1a level, the more prominent was neurologic deficiency and the worse the prognosis. High IL-10 level on the 1st day may be a sign for better ischemic stroke outcome. IL-10 under the detection threshold or low IL-10 level later on is a sign for poor prognosis, disability or lethal outcome. Our clinical-immunological study showed importance of pro-inflammatory cytokine high level and anti-inflammatory cytokine deficiency in pathologic process in ischemic stroke.
