The aim of the study: to investigate the role of TNFa and TGFb in apoptosis and cell proliferation regulation in cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia (CIN) and carcinoma of uterine cervix. Methods: tissue sampling of cervical mucosa and uterine cervix were studied in 164 patients with CIN and cervical tumours. The level of TNFa and TGFb in cervical mucosa was determined with ELISA; apoptosis and cell proliferation were marked immunohistochemically with monoclonal antibodies to p53, Bcl-2 and PCNA. Results: there were an increased level of TNFa, TGFb and expression of p53 and PCNA in CIN patients in comparison with the control group. Cervical carcinoma was characterized by high TGFa, but not TNFb, levels. Expression of p53 and PCNA was increased in comparison with the levels of their expression in CIN. The Bcl-2 expression was detected in carcinoma patients but not in control group and in cervical precancerosis. Conclusion: changes of TNFa and TGFb in cervical mucosa take place in development of imbalance between apoptosis and cell proliferation in CIN and cancer of uterine cervix.
