THE EVALUATION OF CYTOKINE PROFILE IN PHYSIOLOGIC AND PATHOLOGIC PREGNANCY
G.N. Chistyakova, I.A. Gaziyeva, I.I. Remisova, G.A. Cherdantseva, V.A. Chereshnev
The purpose of the study was the comparative analysis of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine production during physiologic (normal) and pathologic pregnancy. The blood levels of IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, TNFα, IL-4, and IL-10 were measured by ELISA in 44 non-pregnant women, 250 women during all phases of uncomplicated pregnancy and 377 women with pathological pregnancy in different terms. In physiological pregnancy, the implication of the fetus-protecting mechanisms is suggested which activate immune system for production of Th2 cytokines and moderate the Th1-dependent immune response. During the complicated pregnancy there was a decrease in IL-10 or IL-4 levels against elevated serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The present findings indicate a generalized activation of immune system during complicated pregnancy. The high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, resulted from an imbalance between protective and fetotoxic factors, inhibit the normal development of fetoplacental unit independent of the initiation cause.
