EFFECT OF CYTOKINES ON THE PROTECTIVE PROPERTIES OF RABIES VACCINE

Zh.I. Avdeeva, S.E. Akol'zina, N.A. Alpatova, A.A. Movsesiants, N.V. Medunitsyn

Stimulating effect of recombinant human cytokines on immunogenic potency of rabies vaccine (COCAV) was studied in outbred white mice. RhIL-1β and rhTNFα each as a separate additive or a complex of cytokines including rhIL-1β, rhIL-2, rhTNFα were found to have the most pronounced stimulatory effect. These cytokines significantly increased the protective effect of cell culture rabies vaccine COCAV assayed by a level of resistance of mice to the subsequent inoculation with fixed virus of rabies (CVS strain). Injection of cytokines as adjuvants stimulated the production of virus neutralizing antibody with titers that were 2.5 to 6 times higher than in control mice immunized with COCAV alone.
