CHLAMYDIAL CONJUNCTIVITIS: CORRELATION OF GLYCOSAMINOGLYCANS AND CYTOKINES LEVELS IN BLOOD SERUM
N.Ye. Shevchuk, A.R. Shamratova, V.B. Malkhanov, E.A. Latipova
Changes in glycosaminoglycans (GAG) and cytokines levels in blood serum of patients with chlamydial conjunctivitis are described. It was revealed that IFN?, IFN?, IL-1?, IL-6, IL-4 concentrations and total content of GAG in serum were increased. Changes in GAG level were associated with the increase in heparan sulfate concentrations. High level of hyaluronic acid and its correlation with TNF? and IFN? concentrations are described during chronic course of disease. Correlation of immune and biochemical mechanisms of chlamydial conjunctivitis are thought to be responsible for the formation of chronic form of the disease. (Cytokines and Inflammation. 2008.
