Involvement of the complement lectin pathway in postischemic inflammatory response

A.S. Boyajyan, G.V. Tsakanova, L.G. Zhamgaryan, R.B. Sim, К.M. Nahapetyan

A functional activities of the key components of the complement lectin pathway during postischemic response progression in acute ischemic stroke have been studied. As compared to norm, significantly increased blood levels of mannan-binding lectin and activities of mannan-associated serine proteases on days 1-14 of stroke onset have been shown. Based upon the data obtained it has been concluded that postischemic inflammatory response is characterized by hyperactivation of the complement lectin pathway, and that components of the lectin pathway may be considered as targets for therapeutic correction of ischemia-induced inflammatory reactions. (Cytokines and Inflammation. 2010. Vol. 9, № 3. P. 35-39.)

Keywords: ischemic stroke, postischemic inflammatory response,  complement lectin pathway, mannan-binding lectin, mannan-binding lectin-associated serine proteases.
