Cytokine-producing function of immunocompetent blood cells was investigated in patients with breast invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and breast fibroadenoma. Diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological and immunohistochemical study of breast tumor specimens. Сytokines and growth factors levels in the peripheral blood were determined with ELISA. We found out correlations in the group of patients with IDC: between the polyclonal activator influence (PAI) upon IL-2 production and the number of mitoses (r=0,338, p<0,050), between PAI upon VEGF production and the number of lymph nodes with metastasis (r= -0,381, p<0,026) and between PAI upon IL-18 production and the value of Her2-neu (r=0,338, p<0,050). Significant differences in PAI upon IL-18 production were observed in patients with IDC and fibroadenoma. In patients with IDC with metastases, a strong suppression of IL-18 production was revealed resulting in decreased production of associated IL-6, G-CSF and VEGF. (Cytokines and Inflammation. 2015.
